Healing was central to Jesus' ministry and the spectrum of activities associated with the ministry of healing and wholeness is broad and varied. It can range from listening to someone who is in trouble or bereaved to work with the dying and from hospital visiting to involvement in healing services in church. The Diocese aims to offer a range of training for those interested in these varied aspects. The Fellowship of Healing and Wholeness offers a basic Accreditation Course designed for those who feel called to the laying on of hands in public worship. To be accepted on this course applicants need the support and backing of their incumbent and PCC. After an initial study day designed to give an introductory overview, this course has a centrally taught module of 6 evening sessions. They are based on a course called 'In Search of Wholeness' produced jointly by the Acorn Christian Foundation and St. John's College, Nottingham. This theoretical study is combined with practical sessions on prayer with the laying on of hands. Participants are also required to follow a five session course of study in their own parish with a local support group using the Acorn course 'Growing a Healing Ministry'. After joining with those who have already been accredited on one of their twice-yearly refresher study days, participants undertake a year's practical experience in their parish before accreditation. For those who wish to explore specific aspects of this ministry in greater depth, the executive committee is working with the LMTS to develop appropriate and relevant modules of study. |
