The Lambeth Conference 2008

Preparations are well in hand at the Anglican Consultative Council headquarters in London, at the University of Kent and in Canterbury Cathedral for next year's gathering of all the Bishops of our Anglican Communion and their spouses. More information about the Conference can be obtained from the Conference web site link www.lambethconference.org Replies to the invitations to attend, sent out by Archbishop Rowan, are being received and collated. We are stepping up our own efforts to organise the essential contribution which this Diocese, the mother Diocese of the Communion, makes to the success of the event. We are travelling round the Diocese visiting Deanery Synods, sending round posters and prayer cards, encouraging articles in church magazines and of course, seeking prayerful support. Just as your parish church only functions through the voluntary help of many people in all kinds of ways, so this Conference relies on several hundred people stewarding in a variety of roles. Could you think seriously about whether you could be one of them?

In 1988, when Robert Runcie was Archbishop, I was Chaplain in U.K.C. and so was involved in the running of the Conference. It was a wonderful privilege and a great experience. Speaking to those who have been involved as stewards before, over and over again we get a very positive response - that it was so worthwhile. Will you be with us next year?
