The Board of Mission is responsible for the Home and Overseas mission activity of the Diocese, working through its two committees - Diocesan Evangelism Working Group (DEWG) and the Canterbury World Awareness Group (CWAG). DEWG concentrates with the Diocesan and Children's Missioners, on Home Mission at all levels within the Diocese. CWAG deals with the Overseas Mission activity of the Diocese in particular the co-ordination of the overseas mission agencies and their impact at parish and deanery level.

The Board also provides an important co-ordinating link between a number of portfolio holders that include the Diocesan Ecumenical Officer, European Links Officer, Madagascar Links Officer, Diocesan Spirituality Group, Poverty and Hope Appeal, Diocesan Rural Officer, and the Diocesan Missioner. There are currently no links with the Communications Officer.

The Board consists of six elected Diocesan Synod representatives (4 clergy and 2 lay) and eight portfolio holder representatives. The Board meets three times annually with the committees meeting more frequently as their work dictates.

The Board plans over the next few years to:
  • strengthen the effectiveness of the Diocesan links with the world church especially mainland of Europe.
  • provide a platform and sounding board for portfolio holders to review their longer term objectives
  • finding effective ways of resourcing the deaneries and parishes for their on going evangelistic work
  • review its structure and relationship with the Archbishops Council.

The Board's priority will always be Home and Overseas Mission and the provision of the necessary co-ordination links with and between the Diocesan portfolio holders.
