Employment of PCC Members

The issue of whether a person who is in receipt of remuneration from a PCC is also eligible to stand as a trustee of that PCC has become more pertinent as the provisions of the Charities Act 2006 come into force. The Church Representation Rules do not specifically deal with the matter but the Charities Acts are clear that such persons cannot stand for election without prior approval of the Charity Commission. With the passing of the Charities Act 2006 the Charity Commission have assumed greater powers in the regulation of the charitable sector and the registration of all PCC’s will begin in late 2008. It is all the more imperative that such conditions about the employment of trustees are adhered to.
